An overwhelming response from the Melbourne public has resulted in a massively successful Bushfire Relief drive which occurred at VAEAI’s Northcote office this week.
Hundreds arrived over the afternoon to donate cash cards and physical goods for the families and communities affected by the ongoing bushfires.
Approximately $30,000 in cash cards for Coles, Woolworths, Target, Kmart and Visa pre-paid cards were received. An incredible amount of physical goods were also received with a wealth of baby goods and sanitary items ready to be distributed to those affected.
“We were overwhelmed with the amount of people and families that donated to the Community Collections on Wednesday. People from far and wide dropped by our Northcote office to contribute and we were humbled by the generosity of the Melbourne public.” Said VAEAI General Manager – Lionel Bamblett.
The community collections will now enter a process and be coordinated alongside our Local Aboriginal Education Consultative Groups, relevant Aboriginal Co-Operative and Community Centres. VAEAI will document and publish information once the drive has been completed.
“We will now collaborate and decide the most effective way to distribute the donations which will be done in coordination with our rural communities. This is obviously a hard time for many people across Victoria and we are adamant in ensuring that the resources will be used efficiently.” Added Bamblett
VAEAI and our associated organisations are greatly appreciative of everyone who contributed to the Bushfire Relief – Community Collections, with such an overwhelming amount of care and generosity shown. It is fantastic to see everyone coming together during this difficult time as the crisis continues.
